THE Eastern part of the country has been experiencing a television blackout for nearly two weeks after an electric pole at Buwalasi Hill in Sironko district was cut down and several meters of cable that supply power to UBC TV transmitters were stolen.

“Some of the power lines in Mbale were stolen, but in the mean time we are on generator,” said Jane Kasumba, the UBC spokesperson. She promised that the problem would be rectified in two weeks.

But some viewers The New Vision talked to in Mbale were disappointed about the broadcasting corporation’s failure to provide a standby generator as promised.

They said UBC made the promise before last year’s World Cup in Germany.
Officials from radio stations providing UBC with a generator to support transmission have complained that the solution to the problem was long overdue.
