Speaker jailed for defilement
RUKUNGIRI-The Nyakishenyi sub-county speaker, Wednesday Twinomujuni, was on Friday remanded to the Rukungiri Government Prison, after he was charged with defilement. Court presided over by the Grade One Magistrate, Lillian Buchana, heard that Twinomujuni defiled a 15-year-old girl on July 6. He also hid her for over three days before he was arrested. Twinomujuni was not allowed to plead since the offence can only be tried by the High Court. He was remanded until August 13 when the case will come up for mention.
S4 student drowns
BUSHENYI - A Senior Four student of Trinity Vocational Secondary School drowned last week as he tried to swim. The district Police commander, Peter Onyura, identified the deceased as Andrew Amutuheire of Rubingo village in Kyeizoba sub-county. Onyura said Amutuheire tried to swim using a jerrycan but drowned.
Primary school closed
NTUNGAMO-Education officials have closed Ntungamo Nobles Primary School for lack of a licence, qualified teachers and sanitary facilities. The education officer, Festo Karaara, said the owner of the school, Thomas Kajungu, failed to provide the required facilities of a boarding school.
