WE all love to wear it and will take time out just to do shopping for it. It is virtually an integral part of a woman’s wardrobe. But, how well do we care for our undwerwear? Yes, it seems like all you have to do at the end of the day is take it off, wash it before you have your bath, hang it up and call it a day, but there’s more.

Underwear is literally anything that you wear beneath your ordinary clothes. It can be a bra, bustier, camisole, petticoat or panties.

It must be well-kept. Not only because it stays longer when well cared for, but also for hygiene reasons. A lot of the underwear women like to buy comes in delicate fabric like lycra, nylon, polyester and satin. All of these are materials which need extra care and attention.

Hand-washing is the best way to clean your lingerie. Yes, in this modern world, you may feel like a machine wash could do. That is not good at all. Machine washing causes the delicate material to quickly degrade and before long, it will lose its visual appeal. Hand-wash all your underwear once a week.

Some people even prefer to soak them overnight before washing them. That is fine. Like any other kind of laundry, separate the whites from the coloured ones.

People often have a contention when it comes to how underwear should be dried. Many people will leave it in their bathrooms on a mini-clothes hanger. But, this does not allow for freshness on the next wear. The bathroom is a moist place, especially when one is accustomed to taking hot showers. As a result, your underwear does not dry completely, leaving the smell of whatever detergent you used on it. We all know soap and covered body parts are not a good combination when perspiration takes place.

Hang it out to dry on your mini-clothes hanger. If your clothes line is used solely by you, then that is fine. If you share a compound with other people, then your best option could be to hang it on your window where there is enough light and fresh air.

Hanging your underwear in the sunlight also reduces the likelihood of getting that irritating infection candida.

Unlike the rest of your laundry, avoid ironing your underwear. Ironing weakens the fabric, spoils embroidery, damages lace and other details. Even when it is made of cotton, ironing will destroy the elastic bands of panties.

So, take good care of your underwear and keep it looking and feeling as good as new.
