THE five East African countries will hold the first joint exhibition at the World Travel Market in London. The exhibition is slated for November 12 to 16 in Docklands, east London. Five tourist delegates, one from each of the East African Community member states of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi will meet in Kampala on August 15 to map a way forward for the fair.

James Bahinguza, the head of Tourism Uganda, the state-run tourism promotional organisation, explained this week that the development will promote East Africa as one tourism destination.

“There is need for strong marketing of tourism to the world,” said Bahinguza.

The exhibitors will meet the Queen of England before she visits Uganda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in late November in Kampala.

Bahinguza indicated that Uganda would be the host secretariat for other countries while Burundi would exhibit for the first time in the famous show.

Twenty tour operators will participate, he disclosed. Each of them will pay euros 2,000 to hire exhibition space.

Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Uganda High Commission in the UK will also showcase.

Serapio Rukundo, the tourism state minister, will lead the delegation, Bahinguza added.
