LAWRENCE Ssematimba led from the front as Africa Cricket Club maintained their imperious start to the season with a 48-run victory over Wanderers at the Entebbe oval yesterday.

The result leaves the defending champions firmly implanted atop the Premier League table with 16 points after completing their first round of fixtures.

In a reduced-overs match, Africa won the toss and elected to bat and raced to 132-8 in overcast conditions, with skipper Ssematimba standing firm with a gutsy 41.

Wanderers, for their part, failed to match a creditable bowling effort with their batting, as the Africa bowlers –– with Ssematimba in ruthless shape behind the wickets, — made short work of Wanderers’ feeble batting line-up.

“Arthur Kyobe and I gave the team a good start,” Ssematimba said, before lauding paceman Martin Muyomba, who finished with figures of 4-22. “Martin bowled superbly and he helped us pin Wanderers down.”

In the Plate League, Grace Mutyagaba scored an impressive 59 as Rounders thrashed Jinja ACC by 161 runs at the Jinja oval.

The encounter between Kutchimadu and KICC was washed out after an early afternoon downpour rendered the Kyambogo oval batting strip unplayable.
