Over 200 cattle raided
KAABONG-Suspected Jie Karimojong warriors and Kenyan Turkana on Wednesday raided 206 head of cattle from the district.The commanding officer of the UPDF 405 Brigade, Lt. Col. Michael Ondoga, said the cows were raided from Dodoth grazing area in Kopoth, south of Kaabong. The area is near the Kaabong-Kotido district border, the LC5 chairman, Sam Lokeris, said. He noted that the cattle belonged to Angura of Kalapata sub-county. “We are tying our best to ensure that the cows are recovered,†Ondoga said. “If they cross to Kenya, we shall use the diplomatic channels to track them.â€
Illegal fishing nets burnt
JNJA-Illegal fishing gear worth sh4m was on Wednesday destroyed by the district authorities. The equipment was seized in an operation headed by the district fisheries officer, Sarah Namulondo, recently. The items included 50 monofilaments popularly known as Kambamagi, seven cast nets and undersized gillnets. They were burnt at Rippon Falls Landing Site in the presence of area LC1 chairman, Samuel Mwase, and the Beach Management Unit (BMU) officials. Charles Isabirye of the BMU explained that the use of unauthorised gears had led to low productivity of the fishing sector. Isabirye warned that fishermen and traders found with illegal fishing nets would be prosecuted.
