Gay sympathiser attends mass

THE retired Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, known for his advocacy for gay rights, surprisingly attended mass at Kitovu Cathedral. The Rt. Rev. Christopher Ssenyonjo is excommunicated from the Anglican Church for supporting homosexuality.

THE retired Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, known for his advocacy for gay rights, surprisingly attended mass at Kitovu Cathedral. The Rt. Rev. Christopher Ssenyonjo is excommunicated from the Anglican Church for supporting homosexuality.
During the mass, Ssenyonjo and his wife Mary were given special seats and they later greeted the clergy in the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is a holy place in the Church around the altar.
At least 10 priests and 10 deacons were ordained during the mass led by the Masaka Diocese Bishop, the Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa, on Saturday.
Kaggwa mentioned Ssenyonjo among the important guests in the congregation, drawing mixed reactions from Catholics who also condemn homosexuality.
One of the celebrants said Ssenyonjo should not have been recognised during the mass because the public could think that the Catholic Church sympathises with gay activists.
However, a number of believers also noted that recognising Ssenyonjo showed that the Catholic Church was tolerant.
Kaggwa asked the new priests to be trustworthy.
