THE Cuban embassy in Kampala has advised the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) to avail a fully furnished house of residence, a car and monthly salary of $400 (sh0.6m) in order to secure a national coach for the boxing team, Bombers.

The conditions follow UABF’s request in May to the Cuban ambassador, Hanano Fores, to get them a coach to prepare the Bombers for the Beijing 2008 Olympics qualifiers in October.

Uganda was coached by a Cuban coach, Jiminez Lazaros, in the early nineties.

UABF official Sande Musoke explained that they had positively responded to Fores — except for the salary amount demanded.
“We had a meeting and agreed on all the other conditions except the $400. We can only $300. They are yet to respond,” Musoke said on Wednesday.

UABF also agreed to provide medical cover and an air-ticket at least once a year for the coach’s holidays in Cuba.

The Bombers did not win a medal at the All Africa Games.
