Soroti water coverage high
SOROTI - The district has attained a safe water coverage of 73.4%, higher than the national target of 72%. The chief administrative officer, George William Omuge, said the achievement was in line with President Museveni’s manifesto which prioritised safe water for all.

He attributed the success to the partnership between the district, the Government and other stakeholders like the African Medical Research Foundation, the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund and an Italian NGO, ACAV. Omuge noted that the United Nations Children’s Fund was vital in the maintenance and repair of the water sources. “UNICEF provides borehole maintenance kits and has trained the personnel to repair the boreholes in 14 sub-counties,” Omuge said.

PWDs get tricycles

BUSIA - The Norwegian Association of the Deaf has donated tricycles and wheelchairs worth sh4m to people with disabilities (PWDs). The district vice-chairman, Sande Luande, handed over the donation to the beneficiaries recently. He pledged that the district would identify a revenue source to support them. “We cannot just sit back and wait for donors to support our people” he said.
