IN the last few weeks, several incidents of domestic violence were reported, including that of a man who killed his entire family. However, in all cases, LCs in the respective areas had prior knowledge of problems in those families.

One of the spouses had at one time reported a case of abuse by her spouse to an LC1 official. How can LCs help reduce domestic violence?
  • Name somebody on your committee, specifically to handle domestic-related problems.

  • Do not leave cases to go uninvestigated. Make regular follow ups of all domestic violence-related cases that are reported to you.

  • Report all cases that involve violence to the Police.

  • Invite counsellors to talk about the issues with the aggrieved couple.
