EVERY pregnant woman can look smart and graceful by choosing outfits that are trendy and stylish. Harriet kusiima, a mother of three staying in Bugolobi, explains that whenever she would dress smartly, she would feel good about herself and she would stay jovial throughout the day.
The good news is that Kampala is flooded with maternity outfits of all types ranging from casual to party outfits. Grace Lwanga, a manager at Nine Months Boutique on City Complex, says while shopping, it is advisable to consider the material from which the outfit is made. A maternity outfit made from light materials like siphon or cotton is good because it does not make one sweat.
She adds that during the hot weather it is advisable to buy open, sleeveless or short sleeved outfits because they do not make one sweat as opposed to the long sleeved attires.
Maternity dresses or dress tops with straps are ideal because the straps help to cater for the enlarging bump (belly) since they are adjustable. “We have got a large range of outfits to suit all occasions and to cater for different categories of expectant mothers for example casual wear, occasional, office and evening outfits,†Lwanga says.
Depending on your taste, dress tops in cotton material or T-shirts are the perfect attire because they stretch to accommodate the bump. Prices of dress top range from sh50,000 to sh80,000.
Juliet Asiimwe, a manager at Wills Pregnant Boutique on Charm towers, says: “Pregnant women especially short people should avoid wearing long and big maternity dresses because they make them look short and plump.â€
Asiimwe advises that a maternity dress slightly below the knees will do wonders and makes one look good. Short maternity dresses cost between sh60,000 and sh70,000. They are available at Nine Months Boutique and Wills Pregnant Boutique.
She adds that to break the monotony of maternity dresses, working women can opt for trousers with matching dress tops.
However, Asiimwe cautions that the trousers should have elastic porches. The advantage with such trousers is that they can take one through out the period of pregnancy since they are adjustable. Prices of trousers range from sh40,000 to sh60,000 depending on the material and size. Dress tops, when worn on trousers, make one look decent and smart because they are wide enough to accommodate the bump. They also stop slightly above the knees as opposed to T-shirts or blouses that look hanging on the bump/belly.
Asiimwe adds that party or evening dresses do wonders because they stretch and they can be worn even after the pregnancy. Prices of evening dresses range between sh70,000 and sh200,000.
These trendy maternity clothes are available at Nine Months Boutique and Wills Pregnant Boutique. You can also check out in shops dealing in mother care outfits around town.
