PUPILS of Moyo Girls Primary School for the Blind are about to starve following the withdrawal of food supplies by the World Food Programme (WFP).

“WFP only gives porridge to the school. The Adjumani and Moyo district authorities have not given their contributions,” Immaculate Bera, the headteacher, said.

She explained that the eight sub-counties in Moyo were required to contribute sh30,000 per term but the school did not receive the money last term.

Sr. Benedict Anyoitho, in charge of feeding at the school, said she sometimes requests the White Fathers to assist the pupils.

Palma Eyia, the district inspector of schools, who is also in charge of special needs, promised that the problem would soon be addressed.

Sr. Benedict and Constantine Adrari, also a blind teacher at the school, said the education ministry was required to contribute sh250,000 per term but this money was not sent regularly.

A Canadian family also donates sh350000 per term. They will continue supporting the school for six terms.
