THE Director of Public Prosecution on Friday dropped charges of malicious damage of property against five officials of Nansana town council in Wakiso district.

They include Teopista Nanziri, the town planner, David Kyasanku, the principal town clerk and Solomon Rugumayo.

Others are Charles Lwanga, William Nkonge and David Wamala, all members of the town council.
They were being accused of authorising the demolition of the kiosks in road reserves in Nansana.

In a December 19 letter to the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, the DPP said he had decided to discontinue proceedings against the accused persons without giving a reason for his action. Prosecution led by Josephine Nanyonga had alleged that the officials took local the administration Police to Nansana in September and it demolished several kiosks and saloons, they claimed were illegal structures.

The exercise turned rowdy when the residents protested and Fulgensio Sebowa, a resident in the area, was shot dead during the scuffle.

A special Police constable, Godfrey Wagaba, who allegedly shot Sebowa, was charged with the murder. Wagaba was attached to Nansana Police Post.
