UGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) will focus on developing sports administration in associations and promoting Olympic values in 2006.

UOC president Francis Nyangweso released the programme on December 31 at a meeting with federation heads. He said that the programme was aimed particularly at helping athletes.

“Everyone must aim to run an association’s programme to benefit the athletes not themselves. It’s a programme where we need people who have come up to work for the athletes,” Nyangweso told the different federation heads.

The programme has its target as the Beijing 2008 and Commonwealth Games and talent identification for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It also has development of sports federations which will involve technical courses and scholarships for coaches, development of national structures and sports administration and training courses for sports management and administration.

The courses will be run together with the interested federations.

The programme will also have the promotion of Olympic values though sports medicine, sports and environment, women and sports, sports-for-all, Olympic Academy (culture and education) and the Olympic Legacy.

“We will make sure that we see all these programmes being well attended for the good of sports,” said Nyangweso.
