A POLICE officer has been arrested for pulling down President Yoweri Museveni’s poster in Ntinda, a city suburb on Tuesday night.

Andrew Drata, 34, attached to Katwe Police Station, allegedly plucked the poster as a team working with Gen Salim Saleh fixed them at Kalinabiri.

Kira Road Police Station chief Patrick Echeku yesterday said Drata went into a rage when he saw the team.

“What are you doing here? Why are you fixing the posters at night? I don’t like that man,” Echeku quoted Drata as having said.

“A team of special police constables later got to the scene but Drata was reluctant to submit to them, saying they were his subordinates,” he said.

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department said Drata would face the Police Disciplinary Court.

Section 75 of the Presidential Elections Act states that anyone who maliciously defaces, removes or tears election posters of any nominated candidate commits an offence. If found guilty, the accused person may be imprisoned for three months or pay a fine of 400,000 shillings.
