JUSTIN ‘The Ugandan Destroyer’ Juuko announced his retirement from boxing in order to concentrate on his political campaigns for Bukoto East constituency Parliamentary seat in Masaka.

Juuko, 33 who last fought in USA in April announced his retirement yesterday at a press conference at Tourist Hotel in Kampala. He said he is convinced it was time to hang up his gloves.

The four-time Commonwealth super featherweight champion sprung to fame in 1995 when he beat Tony Pep to the title in Cardiff before he fought for WBC, WBF, WBA, ABU, NABF and IBA titles.
Asked whether he would be tempted to make a U-turn in future, Juuko, who had established himself as a boxer who would take on fights at short notice, said that he could not rule it out.

Flanked by Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) president Celestino Mindra and his lawyer Henry Kasozi and Jukbox promotions officials, Juuko said, “In America they say never say never. Show me the money and I will be there although sometimes it is hard.”

He said that at the moment he would concentrate on campaigns and promoting Abdu Tebazalwa for a world title. Recounting his 15year-boxing career, Juuko (39, 9, 1, 28ko) described it as 80% successful.

“Juuko’s retirement is welcome. I wish you the best in politics because we shall have you as our flag bearer,” Mindra said.
