KAMPALA mayoral candidate John Kulubya Senseko has pledged to set up vocational schools for street children, if he is elected mayor.
Kulubya said street children should be removed from city streets because they could become a security threat.
“Those kids will one time become a menace to us. But if they are incorporated, they can do some economic work for the nation. As an engineer, I will use my skills to improve their lives,” Kulubya said.
Kulubya, who was addressing supporters in Wabigalo and Bunga I on Saturday, also promised to set up an office to cater for special needs of women, youth and the disabled.
“Women and the disabled are the most marginalised. Many of the women are widows and have children who need special care,” he said.
He said if elected, he would improve the health sector by constructing clinics and maternities at village levels, adding that he would also increase the number of city schools.
“Kampala City Council has few schools to accommodate all those students. As a mayor, I will use my own land to set up new schools to decongest the existing ones,” Kulubya promised.
