THE Police are investigating five LC5 candidates over allegations of using forged academic qualifications and other electoral malpractices to get nominated.
Those under investigation at the criminal investigations department headquarters in Kampala are Hajji Abdul Nadduli of Luweero, Christopher Chekurui Songhor of Kapchorwa, Amos Kigozi Sempala of Nakaseke, Ahmed Kawoya of Kamuli and Richard Mafabi of Sironko.
Whereas four candidates are being probed over using forged documents, Mafabi, is on the spot for not formally retiring from the judiciary, a requirement by the Constitution.
Remmy Twinomugisha, the electoral offences squad boss, yesterday said, “Allegations have been lodged that they presented forged academic qualifications for nomination as LC5 candidates.â€
Yesterday, detectives handling the cases were liaising with the Electoral Commission (EC) to get copies of the alleged forged documents tendered by the candidates as the investigations kick off.
The candidates will be expected to present themselves at the CID headquarters for interrogation where they will be expected to give investigating officers original copies of the academic qualifications, among other things before recording statements.
“They will have to present their academic documents because they are under doubt,†Twinomugisha said.
