KAMPALA City Council Football Club is close to securing the services of their former player Jackson Mayanja.
Mayanja, who assumed cult status at Lugogo as a midfield-cum-striker in the last decade, and was caretaker coach at the Lugogo side for a while a few years back, is reportedly in final negotiations for a three-year deal with KCC.
“The whole executive supported having him appointed coach. He is young, active and besides is experienced to help the club,†said KCC technical chairman Sheikh Jamil Kakeeto.
Mayanja will consequently replace Kenyan-born tactician Hussein Kheri who has set payment of all his arrears as a condition to be met before he returns from Kenya. “We will re-assess his contract and see how to clear him,†Kakeeto added.
Kheri claimed KCC still owed him sh2m in wage arrears. “I am returning to Kampala not to start my coaching duties but to iron out some of the burning issues,†he was quoted earlier.
Mayanja has had coaching stints at URA FC and Rwandan club Kiyovu.
Meanwhile, SC Villa leaves for Tanzania this morning for two high profile friendly matches against giants Simba and Yanga.
