KATAKWI LC5 secretary for health Joseph Emodu was on Thursday shot dead by a Special Police Constabulary (SPC) at Mukura Police Post in Kumi district.

Emodu had gone to follow up on a case in which SPC Robert Ojwang was suspected to have defiled his 17-year old sister.

Mid-eastern regional Police commander Andrew Sorowen said Ojwang tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, after the murder.

“He is admitted to Aturur Hospital, where he is in coma,’ Sorowen said on phone.

He said a housewife identified as Anna Grace Acheko had on Thursday reported a case in which Ojwang had defiled her daughter.

“She reported to the Police and said the matter would be followed up by Emodu,” Sorowen said.

He said Emodu discussed the matter with the Police officers, who referred them to Kumi Police Station.

“However, as they were leaving, Ojwang moved past the counter and without any intention picked his gun, fired one bullet in the air before releasing the next bullet, which hit Emodu,” Sorowen said.
Katakwi chief administrative officer Nicholas Ochakara said Emodu would be buried at his home in Mukura, Kumi.
