MARUZI Ranch Genetic resources Centre was officially opened by the minister of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries recently.

MARUZI Ranch Genetic resources Centre was officially opened by the minister of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries recently, reports Ali Mao.

The minister also inaugurated the Livestock Genetic improvement programme under the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre (NAGRC &DB).

In a speech read by Joseph Kaisa, the NAGRC&DB board chairman, Hajjat Janat Mukwaya said the establishment of NAGRC&DB marks an important milestone on the path of agricultural development and modernisation in the country.

She said the Government is to provide an conducive environment to boost the private sector participation in economic development.

“This ranch serves as a source of livestock for the people of Apac. I ask you to ensure that this programme succeeds,” Mukwaya said. She said the project should not be not be confused with politics.

Mukwaya said Aswa ranch in Acholi region would be rehabilitated.

She said the Government plans to stock other ranches to optimum and sustainable levels.
