THERE was drama at the FDC Villa in Najjanankumbi yesterday when a man claiming to be an NRM supporter undressed at a press conference.

Jonathan Egalal, 28, handed over his NRM T-shirt to the FDC chairman, Dr. Sulaiman Kiggundu.
Egalal, who said he is from Soroti district but a resident of Makerere Kikoni, walked into the tent where Kiggundu and his colleagues were addressing the weekly press conference, causing suspicion among the FDC supporters.

Asked by journalists who the person was and what he was doing at an FDC press conference, Kiggundu said Egalal had come to announce his defection from the NRM to FDC. He invited Egalal to address the press.

Apart from Egalal and Kiggundu’s claims, however, there was no proof that he was a bonafide NRM supporter. Egalal did not mention the role he played in the NRM prior to ‘crossing’.

Kiggundu, Beti Kamya, the special envoy in the party president’s office, FDC’s deputy spokesperson Sarah Eperu, Sam Akaki and John Bijjemano welcomed Egalal to the party. They also displayed cards and T-shirts, which they claimed were surrendered to FDC by NRM supporters who had crossed to FDC.

Kiggundu lashed out at the involvement of the Libyan foreign minister in Museveni’s campaigns.
