DP presidential candidate John Ssebaana Kizito on Sunday continued his tour of the south-western region in search of votes and held rallies in President Museveni’s home district of Kiruhura.

Ssebaana, accompanied by former DP chief Dr. Paul Ssemogerere, pitched camp in Rushere, the main town of Kiruhura, which is located about nine kilometres from Museveni’s Rwakitura home.

Ssebaana addressed a roadside rally from his silver-gray Toyota Prado, in the dusty, bustling town centre, metres away from the junction connecting to the road to Rwakitura.

He said Uganda needs a new president and that he has experience to become president because he has served in various capacities, including as a Cabinet minister and mayor.

Earlier in the morning, Ssebaana attended a service at Ibanda Catholic parish church.

He addressed other rallies in Rubaika and Bwenda in Ibanda district. His convoy moved through the streets of Ibanda town, escorted by a fleet of bodaboda cyclists.

Later in the afternoon, Ssebaana proceeded to Kiruhura, where he addressed rallies in Kazo, Kakoma, Rushere and Kinoni trading centres.
In Kazo, Ssebaana’s rally was attended mainly by supporters who wore NRM party T-shirts and caps and kept chanting ‘DP Oyee’ with clenched fists, the party symbol.

After the rally, some supporters shouted, ‘Tuhe akatunda’ (give us passion juice) while others said, ‘Toyinea ekiwatusigira’ (What are you leaving for us?).

Ssebaana responded that the electoral law forbids presidential candidates from giving out money and other material gifts to voters.
Ssemogerere compared the NRM to an uninhabitable house with a leaking roof, which is the reason why former Movement supporters had defected.

He added, “Look at the people Museveni had – Mande, Kyakabale, Besigye, Muntu, Bidandi and Matembe. They have all left. Museveni’s house leaks and that is why everyone has run away.”
