THE secretary general of the East African community, Amanya Mushega (right), has criticised the government over its failure to promptly prosecute officials who misappropriated the Global Fund money just as it has done to Winnie Byanyima and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) treasurer, Jack Sabiiti.

“The government is taking Winnie and Sabiiti to court because of saying that judges received bribes and those who stole the Global fund money have never been taken to court,” Mushega told residents of Nyabubare sub-county in Bushenyi.

Byanyima and Sabiiti are facing charges of giving false information to chief justice Benjamin Odoki in December that his deputy Leticia Kikonyogo received a sh200m bribe to frustrate the release on bail of FDC presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.

Mushega said the government should have acted first against those who misappropriated global fund money instead of setting up a probe on Byanyima and Sabiiti.

Mushega was in the district to mobilise support for FDC-fronted candidate for Igara West Paul Kahiigi Turyamureba.

He asked leaders of political parties not to force people to vote for incompetent candidates.
