FEMALE drivers Rose Nassolo and Susan Muwonge have ventured into the Rakai Development rally due this weekend, reports Douglas Mazune.

Nassolo (Subaru N-4), wife to national champion Ponsiano Lwakataka, and Muwonge (Mitsubishi Evo2) will be the first female drivers to compete in a national championship since Rose Sembeguya in the 1970s.

“Since Sembeguya’s time we have had only female co-drivers,” FMU’s Kisitu Mayanja said.

The women, who have in the past thrilled at sprints, went route reccing at the weekend. “I am ready for the challenge. I am strong enough to finish a rally,” Nassolo said.

The first National Rally Championship (NRC) event, in Rakai, has so far attracted 11 entrants. Rakai leaders, Mulowoza Construction, Solar Energy for Africa, Spear Motors, WBS TV, CBS FM and Kyotera MP Pius Mujuzi have co-sponsored the rally.
