THE Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared six candidates for both parliamentary and district LC5 seats in the forthcoming elections after finding no merit in the petitions filed against them.

Apollo Mubiru reports that the ‘natural justice hearing’ tribunal chaired by EC chief Dr. Badru Kiggundu on Tuesday dismissed the petitions.

Those cleared are Mawokota North MP Peter Clever Mutuluza, who is also the NRM candidate for the seat, John Bosco Lubyayi, the NRM candidate for Mawokota South, Kabula County MP James Kakooza and Patrick Ogwang, the candidate for Adaa county in Apac.

The four candidates’ nominations were challenged on grounds of alleged forged academic qualifications.

Incumbent Kiboga LC5 chairperson Siraje Kizito Nkuggwa was also cleared over alleged forgery of academic papers.

His rival Daniel Ssebina was also cleared to go ahead with his campaigns as the Police continue to investigate the alleged forgeries in his academic papers.

Williams Jjuko, the LC3 candidate for Lugusulu sub-county in Sembabule and Sadiki Wabwire for the LC3 chairmanship of Buseta in Pallisa were also cleared.

Kaberamaido MP aspirant Ewoku Ebira was rejected for failure to get a certificate from the National Council of Higher Education, equating his Grade Three Teachers’ certificate to A’level.

Charles Buyinza, an aspirant for the Bunya East parliamentary seat in Mayuge district, was disqualified for presenting himself outside the gazetted nomination time.
