PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has described Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye as a deserter who does not deserve to lead Uganda.

Launching his third-term campaign in Apac district, Museveni urged residents to deny Besigye votes for deserting Ugandans and fleeing to South Africa.

“Besigye went to South Africa after he was defeated and now he is trading lies. He ran and left us here fighting LRA rebels,” Museveni said. “Now he is back, enjoys the smooth tarmac and new hotels built by us. These are the type of people who want to reap where they have not sown. Besigye sowed desertion and should reap desertion at the ballot box,” he said.

Museveni arrived in Apac with pomp. Women carried baskets of flowers which they poured on the ground for Museveni’s convoy to drive on.

Tourism minister Jovino Akaki dressed Museveni with a yellow coat decorated in banana fibres.

Museveni said Besigye was an accomplice in the gruesome Barlonyo massacre.
“In fact Besigye and his group were on the side of those who caused the Barlonyo massacre. He should tell us the circumstances under which Opoka died,” Museveni said.
