THE Rugby Cranes’ Commonwealth Games preparations get underway today in the one-day seven-a-side tournament at Kyadondo Rugby Football grounds.
Mango Kobs and national team fullback Allan Musoke will captain the 10-man squad that’s aiming to produce a quality and hopefully winning performance in today’s sevens challenge despite not earning any points during the tournament.
“We agreed to have the national rugby league (15-a-side) that was slated to kick off today, delayed for two weekends and embark on the 7-a-side circuit instead,†said team manager Herbert Wafula.
He added: “Our focus is now on the Commonwealth games-bound team which we want to polish through trial games against local teams before we embark on the Melbourne task.â€
Meanwhile, MTN Heathens, who last year secured the sevens title, will be looking to overcome opposition from archrivals LG Rhinos, Buffaloes and Kampala International University (KIU) a feat they must achieve in order to retain their crown.
Sixteen teams are taking part in today’s sevens circuit where the Uganda team is to be represented by A. Musoke, K. Opito, M. Soita, S. Wakabi, M. Olweny, R. Seguya, J. Musoke, T. Mudoola, E. Lemeriga, M. Ochwo.
