AS a former Express FC skipper who knows what it is like claiming cult-hero status at Wankulukuku, George Simogerere feels Hassan Mubiru has shown character that will turn around a career that only a few months back had gone into serious decline.
Mubiru, who made an impressive return to Ugandan football last week with a goal and an assist in the club’s 2-0 win over Kinyara, notched twice on Saturday to guide the Red Eagles to a 2-0 win over Masaka.
The Cranes striker’s resurgence at the club has been so powerful that the Express tactician Simwogerere said: “He has the potential to become a first rate striker especially if he continues with what he is doing now.”
Meanwhile, Police coach Asuman Lubowa hailed Nega Selubwama’s stunning performance after coming on as a substitute in the cop’s 1-0 win over URA FC.
2005 City Tyres Super League top scorer Martin Muwanga helped the cops to a priceless late winner yet underpinning Police’s victory was the tireless work of the pre-season recruit, who was instrumental in the build-up to the goal.
“He was the best after coming on. He was amazing and won the game for us,” said Lubowa.
If team captain David Yiga and Siraj Sevume have been key to Police’s impressive three-match winning start at the back, Mike Sserumaga, Dan Walusimbi and Muwanga have been key going forward with five goals between them in the scoring stakes.
