The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) yesterday paraded Col. Kizza Besigye’s former schoolmate (above), whose marks he is alleged to have used to get admitted to Kitante Hill Secondary School, to dispel reports that his qualifications were fraudulent.

The man, who identified himself as Stanley Kiiza and not Warren Kizza, said he was in P5 in Kinyasaano Primary School in 1965 when he dropped out.

However, other accounts said a Warren Kiiza, who is not
Besigye, sat his PLE at Kinyasaano in 1968 and scored 144. A picture of a man who resembles the one paraded yesterday, appeared in a Kampala newspaper on Monday.

At the FDC press conference, Winnie Byanyima, Besigye’s wife, gave President Yoweri Museveni a two-day ultimatum to clean up his act or she would reveal his secrets.

“Let him play fair and clean in this campaign or I will have no choice but to come out with documentary evidence to show what a traitor he is to his family and the whole country,” she said.

Bugabula North MP Moses Kizige, in a petition to the Electoral Commission (EC) last week, said Besigye used Warren Kizza’s P.7 results to join secondary school.

Kizige said Besigye sat primary leaving examinations at Mbarara Boys Primary School in 1967 as Smith W. Besigye and scored 113 marks.

Kizige said in 1968, a Warren Kiiza sat for primary leaving examinations at Kinyasaano primary school, which Besigye had attended up to primary six, before relocating to Mbarara Boys.

Kiiza, flanked by Byanyima, Dr. Sulaiman Kiggundu, the FDC chairman and other party officials, said in Rukiga that when he saw his photograph in The Red Pepper, he travelled to Kampala to clarify the matter.

“Recently, I saw my photograph in a paper called The Red Pepper. I remember two people coming to my house and taking a photograph of me without telling me why they were taking the photograph.

“The two asked me whether a man and a woman had come to me to ask me whether Besigye had used my results. I said it was impossible because I studied only up to P5.

“The photograph was mine but there was someone else’s name on it. I have come to consult on the implication of the story,” he said.

He wanted advice on legal redress.
He denied having received support in any form from Besigye. Asked if he followed twins, he said his mother had several children who died and he did not know whether they were twins or not.

Besigye, in a statement delivered by Byanyima, said since October when he returned to Uganda from exile, the NRM and Museveni had done their best and outdone themselves to turn him into a traitor, a terrorist, a rapist, a forger, an impersonator, a crook and an abuser of children under his care.

“Kakooza Mutale and his group have composed songs calling our party president a rapist. Even Museveni himself repeats the claims and accusations that Kizza Besigye is a murderer and an ally of Kony.

“Kizza Besigye has handled all this with dignity. We have tried not to be diverted. We have tried our best to do clean campaigns, but enough is enough. We are now going to challenge Museveni to come out with the truth about himself.

“We have been very restrained and focused on issues that affect our country and we will remain that way until 23 (February, polling day) but if necessary we will bring Museveni the man and all his secrets, all his dirt before this population to judge for themselves.

“Let him tell us if he is clean. Let him tell us if he has any family values to talk about. Let him tell us how many children he has and from how many wives.

“Let him tell us how old they are, let him tell us where they live, let him tell us whether he has not abandoned the children. Enough is enough.

“He is not fit to lead this country. He has no loyalty, no commitment to the people around him, his immediate family and the people of this country.

“Besigye was a brilliant student. those who went to school with him, many of whom are prominent can testify to that. He was brilliant right through the medical school.

“He is someone who overcame unfortunate situations like the loss of his father to make it to where he is today. A medical doctor and renown politician. He is a man with impeccable credentials to lead this country and no amount of dirt or smear from President Museveni or his supporters will damage that.

“He is an honest diligent patriot who fought for this country before it went into an abyss. The generals who today malign him such as Gen. David Tinyefuza would not be alive were it not for the professional skills and dedication of Kizza Besigye in the bush. Salim Saleh has said publicly that if it was not for Besigye he would now be dead or have no limbs after an ambush in the bush,” she said.

Aswa county MP Reagan Okumu and Kiggundu said if the NRM rigged the elections, or refused to handover power after losing, not even his mambas would resist the people.

Okumu said Museveni needed to be checked for mental health. FDC’s envoy Sam Akaki said, “If Museveni rigs the election, we shall force him out. He will go the way other riggers went.”
