Emirates takes care of rugby board officials

DUBAI – The International Rugby Board has announced that it has teamed up with Emirates Airline in a three-year multi million pound sponsorship deal that will see the Dubai-based airline become the first official sponsor of the IRB’s international referees.
DUBAI – The International Rugby Board has announced that it has teamed up with Emirates Airline in a three-year multi million pound sponsorship deal that will see the Dubai-based airline become the first official sponsor of the IRB’s international referees.
The ground-breaking multi-million pound agreement will see all IRB match officials wearing Emirates branded kit in all international matches and other IRB Tournaments. This includes the Six Nations, Tri Nations, international tours, U19s, U21 and the IRB Sevens Series, starting with the opening matches of the 2006 RBS 6 Nations.
Announcing the agreement in London, IRB Chief Executive Officer Mike Miller said: “This is a significant and substantial commercial partnership and I am delighted to welcome Emirates as an official partner to the IRB.â€
“This is a first for the IRB in terms of sponsorship for match officials and highlights the fact that in today’s market for sponsorship and media rights, this agreement represents excellent value to the game and demonstrates the growing and enduring appeal of international rugby to the corporate world.â€
Gary Chapman, President Group Services and Dnata, Emirates Group, said: “Emirates has been a supporter of rugby for a number of years, seen through our sponsorship of Sevens Rugby at an international level since 1986.
We are very pleased to have increased our support for Rugby at the highest level in partnership with the IRB and that our investment will help to play a significant role with its panels of referees and match officials. We look forward to a productive relationship that will deliver real benefits for both organisations in the months and years ahead.â€
The agreement grants Emirates a number of sponsorship and promotional benefits. In addition to branding rights for the international panel of referees and match officials, and use of the title “Official Sponsor of the IRB Referees’ shirt or kitâ€, Emirates will also be given exclusive naming rights to the IRB’s Annual Awards.
