“Many things went wrong in the past. UPC wants to forget those mistakes and start afresh to build a new Buganda in a united Uganda. We want to foster development in all parts of the country through forgiveness and reconciliation,” Miria Obote, UPC presidential candidate, while meeting Buganda Katikkiro Dan Muliika.

“To say there is corruption and influence-peddling would be an understatement. There is a mafia network. An investigating authority should take it up,” Prof Tarsis Kabwegyere, Minister of Local Government, on findings of a commission of inquiry into land transactions in the city.

“How did I cause the death of these people and why? Why not kill bad ones like Alex Onzima and Kassiano Wadri? We don’t believe in killing people except in battle. In cars, that is cowardly,” President Museveni refuting allegations that he caused the death of Francis Ayume, Gad Toko and James Wapakhabulo, at a rally in Koboko.

“Bunyoro is second to the north in rankings of areas which have suffered most under Museveni’s regime. In the north, 70% of the people are living below the poverty line, while in Bunyoro, it is 50 to 60%,” Col Kizza Besigye, FDC presidential candidate, campaigning in Hoima.

“A party looking for women cannot skip my name because I am a political heavyweight. If I was in FDC I would be having a leadership position because Beti Kamya, Alice Alaso and Salaamu Musumba were born yesterday,” Miria Matembe, Mbarara Women MP, denying allegations she is a member of FDC.

“When Museveni says each family is going to earn sh20m through the Bonna Bagaggawale programme, don’t think he is referring to you. He is actually referring to the First Family and other close family members. Where are you going to get sh1.6m, which Museveni says you will be earning?” Ssebaana Kizito, DP president general, campaigning in Mubende.

“As you all know, in the recent past I have presided over an application for Habeas Corpus filed by Dr. Kizza Besigye. Soon after, I presided over a criminal case involving two MPs from Gulu who are in some way linked to Dr. Besigye. After that, I presided over a rape case where Dr. Besigye was the accused. It is beginning to appear as if I am a specialist in Besigyeism,” Justice J.B Katutsi, in a statement for his withdrawal from handling Besigye’s cases.

“We can’t sit back and watch ourselves being rigged out of the polls even before the election date. Most politicians have been winning elections through rigging, which I cannot tolerate,” Erias Lukwago, MP contestant for Kampala Central, while petitioning the EC over his rival Francis Babu’s alleged actions.
