By Florence Nakaayi FORMER Democratic Party (DP) president Paul Ssemogerere has asked supporters to vote for candidates who were endorsed by the party.
Speaking at a rally for mayoral candidate Hasib Kabuye Takuba at Bwaise, Ssemogerere said DP would become stronger if it elected hardworking and devoted members, who will work for the country’s development.
“Despite the fact that parties have not been operating freely, we have been influential. Let’s use this election to make the party stronger by supporting its arrangements,†Ssemogerere said.
He urged people to join the party saying, “DP is the only party which does not have a history of bloodshed and works towards promoting law and order.â€
Takuba is contesting against another party member hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala and four others.
Ssemwogerere asked voters to send President Yoweri Museveni to retirement by voting for John Ssebaana Kizito, the DP presidential candidate.
Party member Sheikh Abdul Kadir Mbogo criticised Museveni’s campaign theme ‘Prosperity for all,’ calling it a mockery. He said it does not indicate how prosperity can be attained.
“I wonder how people will become rich after destroying coffee from which they used to get money,†Mbogo said.
He also cautioned supporters against voting for people who are not devoted to the party.
