PRINCE Alwaleed bin Talal Alsaud, a member of the Saudi Royal family, is to build three hotels in Uganda, the executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has said.

“The Ministry of Education has resolved to relocate Shimoni Demonstration School and the teachers college to Lugogo Bypass. The investor is to construct a five-star hotel on the 15.1 acres of land,” Dr. Maggie Kigozi said.

“Prince Alwaleed, who owns a multi-billion company called Kingdom Holding Company, expressed interest in building three hotels. We have sent him a list of other locations that include land at the source of the Nile and another one near Garuga on Entebbe Road,” Kigozi told a press conference at the Media Centre in Kampala.

The Prince, who is the fifth richest businessman in the world, has investments in banking, telecommunications, media, entertainment, hospitality, computers and electronics, agriculture, upscale fashion, retailing, supermarkets, tourism, travel and automotive manufacturing.

He has shares in 49 companies that include AOL Time Warner, Citigroup, Ford Motor Company, Hewlett Packard, Kodak Corporation, Motorola, Pepsi, Four Seasons Hotels and the Gillete Company.

“He is an investor Uganda cannot miss,” Kigozi said.

She said the investor, who was in Uganda late last year for only three hours, met President Yoweri Museveni and government officials and also proposed joint ventures.

“Eight hotel owners have requested to have joint ventures with the Prince. He is waiting for the Government to allocate him land to start feasibility studies,” she said.
