VICE-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has attacked Buganda, saying the kingdom was frustrating President Yoweri Museveni.

“Museveni loves Buganda but sometimes they put blockades along the way,” he told his supporters at Buwanuka Secondary School, Kakiri on Friday.
Bukenya, who opened the school, said he was saddened when the Katikkiro, Dan Muliika, “welcomed somebody who abolished the kingdom”.

He said the Katikkiro should have first welcomed Museveni who restored kingship.

This was in reference to UPC presidential candidate, Miria Obote’s visit to Mengo recently.

Miria is the widow of the former president, Milton Obote, who abolished kingship.

Bukenya said, “Sometimes we think Buganda is bigger than Uganda.”
He said Buganda rejected the regional tier government, adding that regional governments with an elected chairperson could borrow and also do business.

Bukenya said sh44b would be given to it to run hospitals. “You can’t give this money to somebody who is not elected,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for Museveni, who he described as a visionary and capable leader.
Bukenya said he would concentrate on areas including health, education and wealth for all during the next term.
