MAIZE millers in Kisenyi prevented Umeme engineers from repairing a faulty transformer, claiming they (engineers) deliberately cut off power.
The millers said they had lacked electricity for two weeks.
Over 100 employees from Kisenyi, Mengo in Kampala, gathered on Wednesday when they saw the Umeme pick-up transporting engineers to the scene.
They hurled insults at the engineers who were going to climb the electricity pole.
They threatened to burn the pick-up, which forced their leaders to intervene and explain the need to repair the transformer.
“Grain Millers can no longer satisfy the demand of posho because production is low due to uncoordinate power cuts,†Abdul Kagali, a miller with Nezikokolima Maize Millers, said.
The millers said Umeme had caused the high cost of grinding maize flour, which would push the consumption price up.
