The Ssembabule district chairman, Herman Ssentongo, has refused to stand down from contesting as an independent candidate against the official NRM candidate, Dr. Elly Muhumuza.

The Ssembabule district chairman, Herman Ssentongo, has refused to stand down from contesting as an independent candidate against the official NRM candidate, Dr. Elly Muhumuza.
He said campaigning as an independent candidate was legal.
He made the remarks after a Thursday night meeting at Rwakitura, where president Yoweri Museveni met the district leaders to resolve the conflict among NRM supporters. During a rally a Mateete on Wednesday, Museveni failed to declare and bless the official NRM party candidates, but summoned the group to his home in Rwakitura.
Museveni advised Ssentongo and Joy Kabasti to step down for the official party candidate.
