NDEJJE university’s Gilbert Kiptum and Mildred Chebosis won the men and women inter university cross country championship in Mbarara, inspiring their team to the over all trophy on Sunday.
Kiptum clocked 38 minutes, 54.7 seconds to win the men’s 12km race in an event that attracted athletes from UCU, Nkumba, Makerere, Kyambogo, MUST and Bugema.
He beat Francis Kasangule to a sprint finish.
Chebosis made a one-person sprint to the finish in the women 6km race, with her team-mate Jane Betti coming home one minute 30 seconds later.
The event, coming a day after the East African cross country in Entebbe, was partly to select a team to the world X-country in Algeria in April. Ends
