AIBA sets King’s Cup conditions

WORLD amateur boxing body AIBA is to take full charge of the King’s Cup if the fifth edition of the event is to go ahead this year.
This is one of the conditions set by AIBA (International Amateur Boxing Federation) secretary general Caner Doganeli.
UABF is to fully cater for 18 technical staff including AIBA delegates who will inspect the venue prior to the event. This includes paying air tickets and allowances for the delegates.
The requirements are spelt under the agreement that is yet to be signed between Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) and the world body.
The draft agreement that was sent to Kampala last month required UABF president Sakka Kamoga to sign only if he can meet all the requirements.
UABF secretary Sande Musoke, who described the condition as tough, however, promised to give their position after meeting the various stakeholders.
“We shall need well over sh50m. We have to review the situation before we come up with our stand,†Musoke said.
The AIBA stance comes after local organisers, Buganda Boxing Committee (BBC), failed to meet the required standards in the past tournaments.
The event dedicated to the Kabaka (king) of Buganda Ronald Mutebi is slated for June 9-18 in Kampala.
