KAMPALA — Britain has appointed its former minister Chris Mullin MP, as its special representative to observe tomorrow’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

KAMPALA — Britain has appointed its former minister Chris Mullin MP, as its special representative to observe tomorrow’s presidential and parliamentary elections. Mullin, who arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, will meet representatives from main political parties, election officials, civil society groups and international observers. A statement from the British Council said Mullin was looking forward to fair elections.

EC orders

KAMPALA — EC secretary Sam Rwakoojo has ordered presiding officers for tomorrow’s presidential and parliamentary elections not to open ballot boxes before at least five candidates’ agents have arrived. Rwakoojo was yesterday speaking at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel where the electoral commission was briefing international election observers.

Army tells

RUKUNGIRI — Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has assured residents of security in tomorrow’s presidential and parliamentary elections. A source at the security meeting at the RDC’s residence on Sunday said Nyakairima warned against intimidating and harassing the voters.

Sixty set

KAMPALA — The United States embassy is to field 60 observers in the election exercise that starts tomorrow. A statement said the observers, including 20 American officers and 40 Ugandan employees at the embassy, will participate in the exercise. The team, divided into 19 teams, will cover 13 districts.
