INDIA was the biggest foreign investor in Uganda in 2005, the executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Dr. Maggie Kigozi, has said.

Kigozi said according to planned investment statistics for 2005, India planned to invest over $37.5m (sh68b) in projects that would employ over 2,914 Ugandans.

During an interview on Tuesday, Kigozi said although the statistics show the investments as planned, many had already taken off.

She said foreign investments had continued to grow at 20% and she expected the percentage to increase this year with the biggest foreign project being the Bujagali project.

“I am proud of India’s investments though we have many other foreign investments. We have already met investors from Italy and we expect another group from Austria,” Kigozi said.
