RUHAAMA County MP-elect Mrs. Janet Museveni has promised her supporters that she was optimistic she would fulfil the pledges she made during the campaigns.

Janet, who is also the First Lady, said this in her maiden speech after electoral officials declared her MP at the Ntungamo district council hall on Saturday.

“God, I ask you to guide me and I fulfil the pledges I made during my campaigns. I know he will not let me down and I will fulfil all my pledges,” Janet said.

She said she was confident Uganda was entering a new phase of transformation and development.
“The votes you have given President Yoweri Museveni and I will not be wasted. We will work for you with all our hearts,” she said.

Janet ousted the incumbent and Forum for democratic Change strongman Augustine ruzindana in a race marred by accusations and counter-accusations.

Results read by Ntungamo district returning officer Israel Bakulu Mpagi, showed that Janet garnered 50,949 votes (72.9%) while Ruzindana polled 15,420 (22.9%). Patrick Karekyezi and Amanda Magambo got 0.02% and 3% respectively.

Janet said she heeded a call from God to go and liberate Ruhaama, her home place.

Ruzindana said Janet’s move to contest against him was just “malice”. He has been an MP for 10 years.

Janet said the movement would have worked better if it were not for some people in it who pulled it backwards. “Now that they have gone, the movement will work without putting a step behind,” she said.
