Ssebaana the victor
ON the eve of the election day, Democratic Party candidate John Ssebaana Kizito said it was finally time for the DP to take over power. He appealed to his supporters to jealously guard the vote, because ‘time for the Movement is up’. “After voting for Ssebaana, guard your votes, don’t go home before the counting is over because the time for the Movement is up. The time to change leadership is now or never,” he said. It would be interesting to see the look on his face now. He said he would stay in the country even if he lost the election. “Why leave the country? I will stay here. I don’t depend on politics for a living. Politics is straining me,” he said.

Bwanika adamant
For Independent candidate Abed Bwanika, losing this election was completely out of question. He had no doubt he would win because he considered his the best programme for Ugandans. “I have no doubt that Bwanika has the best programme. I am optimistic of victory, since the people are voting for a Ugandan with the best programme,” he said. Asked whether he would stay in the country if he lost, Bwanika said, “I am not sure whether I will stay or leave. But why flee? This is my country, even if I lose, going out is not one of my options,” he said.

Kiggundu sure
Forum for Democratic Change chairman Sulaiman Kiggundu appealed to all Ugandans to demonstrate the support they have shown them through the campaigns. “We are optimistic of victory because the demand for change has been tremendous in all the places we have been to,” Kiggundu said. He said the acceptance of the results would depend on the way the elections are handled. He said that Col. Besigye would stay in the country whether he wins or loses. “Did he ever tell you he is a citizen of any other country?” he asked.

Rugunda in Charge

For NRM Electoral Commission chief Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, they were as sure of the victory as their contenders. “We are sure of victory because the Government has delivered on all important programmes. We have provided a good manifesto and good programme of prosperity for all,” Rugunda said before appealing to all NRM supporters to turn up and vote, be peaceful and disciplined and to vote for Museveni and all NRM candidates. It remains to be seen who of them all will win.
