Be tough on Fox Odoi

WHY was President Museveni’s legal aide threatening people in Tororo with a gun while dressed in a Movement teeshirt? Reportedly the incident was motivated by rivalry to Sanjay Tanna, the eventual winner of the Tororo municipality seat.

WHY was President Museveni’s legal aide threatening people in Tororo with a gun while dressed in a Movement teeshirt? Reportedly the incident was motivated by rivalry to Sanjay Tanna, the eventual winner of the Tororo municipality seat. Whatever the reason, his behaviour was unacceptable. If Nasser Sebaggala was briefly arrested for talking to people at a polling station, police and the law should come down much harsher on an armed party activist who harassed political opponents. The police must be impartial and treat Fox Odoi no differently than if he were a member of FDC or UPC.

Why mention Third Term?

THE European Union observers concluded that voting on election day was ‘competitive and transparent’ but that the incumbent had an unfair advantage in the run-up. Fair enough. In fact their report was the most thorough of all the monitors. However the EU observers went too far when they demanded for the restoration of presidential term limits. What has this got to do with the electoral process? The EU also monitors all elections of its member states. Does it call for Britain to introduce term limits after observing elections there? Of course not!

Where is the final tally?

The Monitor in conjunction with Demgroup was providing an alternative tally for the presidential election. The last figure we heard was 51% for Museveni and 44% for Besigye. This has led to rumours that the Electoral Commission exaggerated the vote for Museveni. They should now provide their final figures so that we know if there has been fraud or not.
