Stop the delusions, FDC

SIR – I have monitored the election results back home with very keen interest, especially as a student of politics. It goes without saying that this year’s presidential election has been tight. While the Electoral Commission is the legal authority mandated by the Constitution to conduct and release results, other parties deemed it necessary to make independent vote-tallying to compare with those of the Electoral Commission. With specific reference to the FDC Tally Centre, their percentages are in excess of 100! I am tempted to conclude that some of their figures were fabricated deliberately to exaggerate their strength. According to the latest release on the FDC website as of February 26, the presidential election results were as follows:
1) DP: 2.4%
2) FDC: 46.5%
3) NRM: 50.0%
4) UPC: 03%
5) IND: 0.8%
Note: These percentages add up to 102.7%! I would advise the FDC to convince Ugandans to vote their party through a more credible approach than through fictitious statistics. In my opinion, FDC did not do badly and it should prepare for another round in just five years’ time. Let us try to have basic honesty.
