THE Commander of the Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has applauded the security forces in northern Uganda for ensuring that the presidential and parliamentary elections ended without disruption by the rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

He said the army needed to wipe out the rebels so that people leave the camps and return to their homes.

Katumba hailed the UPDF for making sure that the elections ended peacefully. He was addressing soldiers at the NRM victory celebrations at Gulu military barracks on Sunday.

“Foreign and local election observers were poured here and other northern districts because they were told that the army would block people from voting freely. I thank you for making sure that the elections ended without any violence or chaos. Now we are left with one big challenge, to end the LRA war.

Otherwise it will be useless to celebrate the victory of NRM,” the excited Wamala said, as he watched the soldiers’ Congolese wives dance to Lingala music.
