Countrywide elections for chairpersons and councillors for sub-counties and town councils take place today, which is a public holiday.
Electoral commission chairman Badru Kiggundu yesterday said the polls for Kampala Division chairpersons and councillors that had earlier been postponed would also be conducted today.
He said elections that had earlier been deferred for various reasons would be conducted today.
They include polls for Oyam South MP, division chairpersons, directly-elected councillors and women councillors for Kampala, district local council elections for directly-elected councillors and women councillors, where they were not concluded.
He said EC was forced to postpone the Kampala Division chairperson elections because of break-down of machinery at the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation.
“Following a guarantee from the printers that ballot papers would be ready, the EC rescheduled the polls to today. “Polling materials for these elections have been dispatched and will have reached polling stations in time for voting to start at 7:00am,†Kiggundu said. He, however, noted increasing voter apathy as the elections wind up and urged voters to turn up.
Kiggundu said results at polling stations where there would be malpractices would be cancelled. He urged the public to report any deviation.
