STUDENTS at the Uganda College of Commerce (UCC) in Soroti on Wednesday morning set ablaze the principal’s office.

The Police deputy spokesman, Patrick Onyango, said “disgruntled students” burnt the office made of bricks and grass at about 5:00am.

He said the Police were alerted and responded quickly before the fire spread to other buildings.

Several documents were destroyed, Onyango said, adding that they were investigating the matter.

“We have not apprehended any person for participating in that unfortunate incident but we are pursuing it seriously. We want to know what forced the students to do that,” he said.
The principal was not available for comment.

Meanwhile, a thug died instantly on Thursday night when a security guard pumped bullets into his body as he fidgeted with locks on a Simba Telecom shop in Busega, a city suburb.

The unidentified thug, who was in the company of five other colleagues, was killed at about 1:30am on Thursday, Onyango said.

Armed with wires and a metal-cutting gadget, the six men stealthily got to the shop and tried to break in, Onyango said.
“As they tried to open the locks, a guard saw them, fired and killed one of them instantly,” he said.

He said the other thugs fled when the guard shot their colleague.
