SHIMONI demonstration School and the teachers college will not shift until December, sources said yesterday. The Government had earlier planned moving the schools, located in Kampala Central, by May.

Sources further said the Government revisited the decision and reconsidered that preparations for shifting were inappropriate in a short time.

The Government offered Shimoni’s land measuring 15.1 acres to Saudi prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Alsaud.

Alwaleed, the world’s fifth richest man, plans to construct a five-star hotel on the land.

The schools will now be re-located to permanent buildings and not temporary structures as earlier suggested by the Ministry of Education, confirmed city education officer Anne Galiwango.

The ministry had offered the schools 15 acres of land on Lugogo By-pass opposite Kololo SS where they will be shifted, six kilometres north from the present location.

Sources said a technical committee was appointed to ensure that the re-location of the schools does not affect the parents, students and children in accessing them.

The committee is headed by the Ministry of Education ’s construction unit.
Kampala City Council (KCC) officials, Peter Katabayire, a planner and David Katende, an architect, are also on the committee. KCC is the administrator of primary schools in the city.
