BOU names star dealers

BANK of Uganda (BOU) has named Standard Chartered and Barclays banks are the best performing primary dealers in government securities for January and February respectively.

BANK of Uganda (BOU) has named Standard Chartered and Barclays banks are the best performing primary dealers in government securities for January and February respectively.

The BOU said in a statement last week that the award initiated in January 2005, recognises the best performers in auctions of monetary policy instruments, trading of government securities and the transmittal of information regarding the status of the financial markets to the central bank.

A primary dealer is any financial intermediary that has signed a memorandum of understanding with the central bank to execute auctions on a consistent basis to participate as counter party in auctions of monetary policy instruments like Treasury bills and bonds and repurchase agreements conducted by the BOU.

Barclays Bank, Bank of Baroda, dfcu Bank, Stanbic Bank and Standard Chartered Bank are the financial intermediaries that applied and satisfied the criteria for the primary dealer in government securities license
“Financial intermediaries also had to provide the public with prices or yields that they will buy and sell government securities on a continuous basis,” the statement said.
